At Points of Light Foundation Institute (“POL”, “we” and “us”), your right to privacy is a primary concern. This privacy policy explains how the information you provide during your use of (“POL Site”), (“HON Site”) and (“GH Site”) is protected by us. The POL Site, HON Site and GH Site shall collectively be referred to as the “Sites.” After the “General Privacy Terms” below are provisions that apply specifically to the GH Site.


Acceptance of Privacy Policy  for GH Site

You understand that by clicking the “I ACCEPT” button displayed on your screen in connection with the Terms and Conditions [provide link] you are agreeing to the terms of this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to these terms do not click “I ACCEPT” and do not use the GH Site.

You understand that by using the POL Site and HON Site you are deemed to have agreed to the terms of this Privacy Policy.  If you do not agree to these terms do not use these Sites.

There are several areas on our Sites where we request information from you. We ask for this information so that we can enhance your visit to our Sites, to fulfill your requests, facilitate the provision of the services to you, ensure proper functioning of our Sites and technology, or to follow up with you after your visit. Your personal information is used only for the purposes for which you provide it. We take reasonable steps to ensure that information that we receive from you is reliable for its intended use, accurate, complete and current, including providing mechanisms by which you can amend or update your information.



We may collect personally identifiable information from you that may include your name, telephone number, address, e-mail address, and other information to authenticate you as a user and to send notifications relating to the services provided through the Sites. We may also collect other profile data including but not limited to: gender, age, interests and occupation in order to assist users in finding and communicating with each other. In addition, we may conduct occasional surveys which will require you to submit information to us. These surveys are entirely voluntary and you may easily decline to participate. We do not, however, knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13.




When you make a donation through the Sites, we will use a third party provider to process your credit card information. When you submit your credit card information, it is processed by our third party provider not us. We do not have access to, retain or store your credit card information submitted during your donation. The third party provider has been required to subscribe to the privacy principles in this Privacy Policy. Though the provider has represented to us that it uses industry standard security protocols to restrict physical as well as electronic access to your credit card information, we do not guarantee the security of your information when processed by the third party provider. We are not responsible for the privacy practices employed by our third party provider. You are encouraged to review the privacy policy of our third party provider prior to submitting your credit card information.



We may allow advertisers outside of POL to display ads promoting their services. We do not share your information with advertisers without your consent. We may use any of the non-personally identifiable attributes we have collected (including information you may have decided not to show to other users, such as your birth year or other sensitive personal information or preferences) to select the appropriate audience for advertisements.


Sharing Information with Third Parties

POL takes the privacy of our users very seriously, and we do not sell, rent, or otherwise provide your personally identifiable information to third parties for marketing purposes. Further, we will only share your personally identifiable information with third parties to carry out your instructions or to provide the services or information unless compelled by law, as necessary to enforce the Terms and Conditions [provide link] or protect the rights, property, or personal safety of POL, its users, and the public.


Use of the Information you provide

We may use information: (i) for the purposes for which you specifically provided the information, (ii) to send you e-mails relating to POL unless you have opted out of receiving such e-mail, (iii) to enhance existing features or develop new features, products and services, and (iv) to provide advertisers and other third parties with aggregate (non-personally identifiable) information about our user base and usage patterns.


Server Information

When you use the Sites, our servers automatically record information that your browser sends. This may include information such as your web request, IP address, browser type, the date and time of your request and one or more cookies that may uniquely identify your browser.


Contact Us

When you elect to send an email or other communication through the “Contact Us” section of the Sites we may retain those communications (including your name, email address, and any other information you provide) in order respond to an inquiry, respond to a request or improve our services.


Your Right to Choose

Any information that POL collects from you on the Sites is information that you specifically and voluntarily provide. You may choose not to provide any or all of the information that is requested on the Sites. Access to Your Information

Upon request, we will take reasonable efforts to provide you with  access to your information to review it for accuracy and make any modifications that you deem appropriate. The Security of Your Information

We strive to protect the privacy of the information that you share with us. We have undertaken reasonable efforts to implement security measures designed to protect all data we collect against unauthorized access.  We utilize the industry standard security measures available through your browser, so that it is unlikely that your information can be read as it travels over the Internet.  We conduct internal reviews of our data collection, storage and processing practices and security measures, as well as using physical security measures to guard against unauthorized access to our systems. Unfortunately, no data transmission over the Internet can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. As a result, although we strive to protect your information, we cannot ensure or warrant the security of the information that you submit to us via the Sites and you do so at your own risk. 


Changes to This Privacy Policy

By using this website, you consent to the collection and use of your information by us in accordance with this privacy policy.  If we update or modify this Privacy Policy, we will post the changes on this page so that you will always have the ability to know what information we collect, how we use the information, and under what circumstances we deliver the information.  Your continued use of this Sites after any such changes constitutes your acceptance of the new terms. 


In the event that we make changes to terms applying to the GH Site, you will receive an email notice that changes have been made. Included in the email will be a link to a webpage on the GH Site where you can go to review these changes. Your continued usage of the GH Site after we send the email notice constitutes your consent to the changes to this Privacy Policy.


Transfer of Business Assets

As part of our business strategy, POL or substantially all of its assets may be acquired, in such case, Logon Credentials (as defined below) and information provided by you will be part of the transferred assets.

Registration on the gh site

In order to become a user of the GH Site, you must provide us the following information to create an account: name, email address, telephone number and address. You acknowledge that this information is personal to you, and by creating an account on the GH Site, you allow others, including POL, to identify you.



If you are under age 13, please do not register to become a user of the GH Site or provide any personal information about yourself to us or any members of the GH Site. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under age 13, we will delete that information as quickly as possible.  If you believe that we might have collected any information from a child under age 13 over which you have custody or are his/her parent or that a child has registered to become a user of the GH Site, please contact us immediately at


Logon Credentials

You can use the POL Site and HON Site without sharing any information about yourself. However, in order to be come a user of the GH Site you are required to use your email address and a password created by you (“Logon Credentials”) to access restricted portions of the GH Site. One of the primary reasons people use the GH Site is to share content with others. You have the opportunity to share information with other users, including but not limited to your connections and people in groups that you join. This includes your profile and your contributions to discussions on the GH Site, pictures, comments, messages, notes, etc. You have control over what you share, and you can update information at any time. If you do not want information shared with other users, do not post it on the GH Site. You decide how much or how little you wish to communicate to individuals or groups.  The Terms and Conditions [provide link] and this Privacy Policy are in place to protect you and your personal information and hence it is your best interest to comply with the terms. we are not responsible for, and expressly disclaims any and all liability related to ANY HARM YOU SUFFER AS A RESULT OF YOUR BREACH OF THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS OR PRIVACY POLICY.  FURTHER, WE DISCLAIM ANY AND ALL LIABILITY FOR ANY INFORMATION YOU POST ON THE GH SITE.


Although we work to protect the privacy of your personal information , please be aware that no security measures are impenetrable. We cannot control actions of other users with whom you share information. We cannot guarantee that only authorized persons will view your information. You can help reduce the risks of unauthorized use by choosing a strong password, using different passwords for different services, and using up-to-date antivirus software.


Profile Information on the gh site

Once you become a user of the GH Site, you may provide additional information in the “Profile” section describing your skills, experiences, background, etc. Providing additional information about yourself beyond what is minimally required at registration is entirely up to you. Any information you provide at registration or in the Profile section may be used by us as described in the Terms and Conditions Agreement and herein.


Private activity

We also provide tools that you can use privately on the GH Site. These actions and information are private and we don't share or distribute them to others on the GH Site. We adhere to the following principles to protect your privacy:


  • We do not rent, sell, or otherwise provide your personally identifiable information to third parties for marketing purposes.
  • We do not share any information you have not chosen to display on your GH Site profile to other parties, unless compelled by law, or as necessary to enforce our Terms and Conditions Agreement or protect the rights, property, or personal safety of the GH Site, its users, and the public.


All information that you provide will be protected with industry standard protocols and technology.



User Profile information on the GH Site, including members' pictures and names, is displayed to people in order to facilitate user interaction in the GH Site community. Email addresses may be used for the purposes of inviting new people to join the GH Site, to send member-to-member private messages, to invite users to members' groups, and to send notifications related to the service. We may also use a user's email address to send updates, newsletters or news regarding the service.



Members of the GH Site who no longer wish to receive updates or notifications may opt out in their user profile "Account Settings". All notification emails and e-newsletters also include the instructions for opting-out of those communications in the future.After you complete the opt-out process, you will no longer receive updates from us.  Upon receiving notice of your desire to unsubscribe from our email notifications, we will unsubscribe you within 10 days of our receipt of such notice.


deleting your account

If you want to stop using your account you may delete it. When you delete an account, it is permanently deleted from the GH Site. You should only delete your account if you are certain you never want to reactivate it. If you would like to delete your GH Site account please email us at


Limitations on removal OF INFORMATION

Even after you remove information from your profile or delete your account, copies of that information may remain viewable elsewhere to the extent it has been shared with others or was copied or stored by other users. Additionally, we may retain certain information to prevent identity theft and other misconduct even if deletion has been requested.
