L'Oréal Paris Women of Worth Honorees Announced

L'Oréal Paris recently announced the 2009 Women of Worth Honorees. The Women of Worth Awards program honors women who have made an extraordinary difference in their community through their volunteer efforts.

L'Oréal Paris will make a $5,000 donation to each 2009 Women Of Worth Honoree's most cherished charitable cause, as well as an additional $5,000 donation in the name of each winner to support the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund.

2010 MLK Award Recipients Announced

Thanks to the support of the Corporation for National and Community Service and our corporate sponsors, HandsOn Network is pleased to announce the MLK 2010 grant awards.

We received more than 45 applications, and the review team selected the following sites. These organizations represent different regions and communities across the country that will be engaging volunteer leaders, commemorating the life and legacy of Dr. King, partnering with low-income communities and providing opportunities for continued service for volunteers.

History was made Friday evening, October 16, at Points of Light Institute’s Presidential Forum on Service at Texas A&M; University in College Station, Texas.

President Barack Obama joined President George H. W. Hands On Atlanta Celebrates 20th Anniversary

The annual Hands On Atlanta Day on October 3 served as a kick-off to Campaign 2010 and a year-long 20th anniversary celebration for Hands On Atlanta.

Volunteers participated in projects that focused on combating hunger and homelessness and meeting environmental, educational and senior citizens’ needs in four neighborhoods across the city. U.S. Congressman John Lewis and several key leaders served alongside Hands On Atlanta founders and volunteers during this hallmark day of civic engagement.

Kids Care Clubs Feed the Hungry

The United Nations estimates that two to three billion people are malnourished; in America, more than 36 million Americans, including 12.4 million children, are at risk of hunger, according to the USDA. Kids Care Clubs are creating service projects and raising funds to combat this issue and feed the hungry, thanks to the support of Quaker Oats.

From Birmingham to Beijing, Kids Care Clubs around the world will lead Microfinance for Kids and Feed the Hungry projects during the tenth annual Kids Care Week, October 18 – 24, 2009.
