Welcome, Port City Kids Care Club!
A new Kids Care Club has been established under the umbrella of HandsOn Network Action Center Cape Fear Volunteer Center. The new club, the Port City Kids Care Club,
debuted with a project during Kids Care Week that corresponded with the theme of microfinance and feeding the hungry.
Laura Kranchalk led the group, which first met on October 22 to discuss goals and mission and plan their first project. Club members decided to create "Good Eats Bags" and cards for children at a local domestic violence shelter. The club members shopped together and purchased nutritious snacks as well as coloring books and crayons to include in the bags. They met again to assemble the bags and create cards for the children at the shelter.
One club member celebrated his seventh birthday around the time of the project. For his birthday, he asked for donations for the shelter in lieu of gifts, and he was given many items to donate.
The club facilitator reported that the staff and residents of the shelter were extremely grateful for the bags, as well as the generosity of the birthday boy.
