Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a civil rights leader whose lectures, marches and movements sparked the concern and conscience of a nation. Dr. King's courage and selfless devotion to civil rights and social justice helped bring about significant changes to American life. Dr. King’s legacy is important to Hands On Network. Just as Dr. King did, we celebrate human worth, reject social injustices, and strive to help people find hope and dignity through service. Like Dr. King, we are committed to advancing communities through nonviolent civic action and social change.
For more than 10 years, the Network has supported projects that help people remember, celebrate and act upon Dr. King's legacy. Last year alone, some 24,000 Network volunteers celebrated the national Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday (MLK Day) with more than 300 community service and education activities. These activities ranged from clean-up and beautification projects to civil rights marches, rallies and workshops. Keeping Dr. King’s legacy alive continues to be an important and welcomed challenge for the Network. Browse this section to learn more about Remember. Celebrate. Act, a campaign that aims to inspire ongoing service, learning and reflection on Dr. King’s teachings and how they can impact our families, neighbors and communities.
