CCL and American Express Leadership Academy

The Points of Light Institute and the Corporation for National and Community Service in partnership with American Express offer the American Express Leadership Academy as part of the National Conference on Volunteerism & Service. American Express sponsored the participation of the Center for Creative Leadership to lead a Post-Conference Leadership Development program that incorporates a Development Assessment, 360 review, one-on-one coaching, and experiential training. By participating in this initiative, 24 emerging leaders from across the nation had the opportunity to learn both the people and the business skills necessary to lead effectively; network with fellow emerging leaders; gain access to leaders in the nonprofit and corporate sector; and prepare to address transforming changes in the nonprofit sector.

The main commitments we ask from organizations are as follows:

  • Provide paid time off for participating emerging leaders
  • Cover transportation costs to/from site of the National Conference on Volunteering and Service, including round-trip transfers to hotel, dinner and lunch for one night per your organization’s business travel policy
  • Support participants’ completion of the required pre-work, including a 360-degree assessment

The Leadership Academy, developed and delivered by the Center for Creative Leadership, offered high-potential emerging leaders in the volunteering and service sector an opportunity to participate in afeedback-intense learning experience which included hands-on activities to enhance leadership capacity.
