An Overview of HandsOn Network National Programs
Programs that Inspire:
National Service. National service is a critical component in our strategy to create change. We manage a successful and growing portfolio of AmeriCorps programs including the Citizen Action AmeriCorps Program, three State AmeriCorps programs and AmeriCorps VISTA initiatives.
Corporate Council. The Corporate Council includes CEOs of Fortune 500 companies who share an interest in advancing the “big picture” of employee engagement. The Council leads through impact and action, seeks to inspire the business community through increased community engagement, builds a platform for strengthening corporate volunteer programs, and provides broad support of workplace volunteer programs.
Awards and Recognition. The President's Council on Service and Civic Participation created the President's Volunteer Service Award program as a way to thank and honor Americans who, by their demonstrated commitment and example, inspire others to engage in volunteer service. Programs that Equip:
Hands On Schools: cultivates community, school and civic collaboration, transforming schools into dynamic learning environments that foster student achievement and community engagement. Hands On Schools leverages a powerful investment model, bringing together corporate and community partners with unique assets for transformation.
Kids Care Clubs: The goal of Kids Care Clubs is to inspire and nurture the spirit of service and philanthropy so that kids will grow into active engaged citizens. Through tools, resources, grant opportunities, in-kind gifts and national recognition, this program equips parents, teachers and youth leaders to promote civic values and compassion in their homes, schools and communities through meaningful hands-on service projects.
Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC): EITC is the largest federal antipoverty program created for working families and individuals in the U.S. Our EITC initiatives maximize the capacity of the EITC to serve as a tool for building self-sufficiency. Local programs initiate, strengthen and expand local EITC through the effective mobilization and management of skilled volunteers.
Programs that Mobilize:
Disaster Services. Our work in the Gulf continues to be our most demonstrable and effective expression of the power of our Network to mobilize human talent in crisis and recovery. The disaster recovery and rebuilding work in the Gulf and in nearly 30 other affiliates in the last two years, has prompted FEMA to establish our agency as the national resource for service management in disasters.
- National Days of Service. Points of Light & Hands On Network will organize around five signature events each year which showcase the contributions people are having on their communities year-round, and demonstrate the power of volunteering.
- MLK Day. The MLK holiday marks a special opportunity to demonstrate the power of citizen service for community impact and social justice. We will orchestrate a national Network of community based activities through service, education and leadership development that emphasizes the spirit of service through Dr. King’s legacy.
- National Volunteer Week. National Volunteer Week provides the opportunity to showcase the transformational power of service. We will use our recognition and communication tools to amplify the stories of how people are improving their communities to inspire others to take action.
- Corporate Month of Service. CMOS activities provide a perfect platform for highlighting the tremendous contributions Corporate America is making to the civic landscape. We will use this month to represent the year-round contributions of corporations to their communities and encourage other partners and potential parts to join the movement.
- National Conference on Volunteering and Service. This is the world's largest gathering of volunteers and service leaders. In partnership with the Corporation for National and Community Service, we will utilize this annual platform to inspire service, provide people with practical tools to serve more effectively and harness the collective ideas and wisdom of those in service.
- Family Volunteer Day. Using the powerful platform of this event, we will call families across America to work together in service to strengthen their families, communities, local businesses, and non-profit organizations. This day represents the opportunity to show Americans how a civic renaissance is within our reach and that each person can take part.
