MLK 2010 Project Highlights
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service 2010 marks the beginning of the year for service as millions of Americans honor the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by volunteering
in their communities.
In collaboration with civic and service organizations, and our network of 250 affiliates and 70,000 nonprofit partners, we will engage more than 100,000 volunteers in 1,500 projects in 50 communities in the U.S.! HandsOn Corps members and mayors will also convene more than 150 "deliberate dialogues" in cities across the nation. In partnership with the Corporation for National and Community Service, HandsOn Network provided grants to nonprofit partners to conduct local service projects and civic dialogues. Some of the awesome projects that are planned include:

Some of the awesome projects that are planned include:
- Hands On Atlanta: WSB TV 2's Jovita Moore will moderate a conversation between Congressman John Lewis and Douglas Shipman, executive director of the
Center for Civil & Human Rights Partnership. Hands On Atlanta will also recognize exemplary volunteers and disperse volunteers to projects across the city.
- New York (Youth HandsOn Network): Youth HandsOn Network will convene dialogues and performances in the auditorium of a local school in conjunction with a
hands-on service event talking place in the cafeteria and gym.
- HandsOn Greater Phoenix will engage 200 college students and AmeriCorps members in cleaning the largest urban park in the country. Mayor Phil Gordon
will also participate in the project and address the volunteers.
- Greater D.C. Cares: Greater DC Cares will engage more than 150 volunteers in revitalizing a local elementary school and the adjacent recreation center.
Volunteers will refresh the walls with new paint and college logo murals, as well as organize the school library and clean the cafeteria.
- United Way of Greater St. Louis: United Way of Greater St. Louis Volunteer Center will engage 1,500 volunteers in projects that will benefit neighborhoods
across the city, including painting and cleaning a church in a low-income community. Volunteer coordinators will lead participants in reflective dialogues after the
projects are completed.
- Hands On Sacramento: Hands On Sacramento will partner with Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson to further his efforts to end homelessness and increase
volunteerism in the city. More than 1,500 volunteers will participate in 30 projects.
