HandsOn Network Action Centers made in a difference in communities across the country on Saturday, October 24. Make A Difference Day wrapped up an amazing week of civic engagement – Kids Care Week and the week-long television blitz promoting service thanks to the Entertainment Industry Foundation's iParticipate campaign.
Make A Difference Day is sponsored by USA WEEKEND Magazine in partnership with HandsOn Network, and HandsOn affiliates truly created change in creative ways on this historic, high-impact day.
Some of the highlights include:
- University of Phoenix proudly supported Make A Difference Day by encouraging alumni, students, faculty and staff to participate in projects across the country, including four signature projects at schools and environmental agencies with our affiliates in Dallas, Washington D.C., Chicago and Phoenix.
- Boston Cares volunteers landscaped and planted 5,000 blubs at the Charles River Esplanade, a Boston landmark and outdoor recreation area. Disney Parks added to the fun by sending Mickey and the JaMMitors to entertain volunteers.
- The Indiana County Department of Human Services and Volunteer Center hosted a Volunteer Speed Matching event (opposed to speed dating event) to help members of the community connect to volunteer opportunities that matched their skills and interests.
These are just a few examples of the incredible service that occurred across the country this weekend. Many partners outside of HandsOn Network and USA WEEKEND pitched in for the day as well, including AARP’s Create the Good, Disney FamilyFun, the Entertainment Industry Foundation and WE tv. Additionally, University of Phoenix, HandsOn Network and USA WEEKEND launched a social media campaign to collect all updates about Make A Difference Day on Twitter. We are encouraging all who volunteered or are mentioning Make A Difference Day in their tweets to use hashtag #MDD09 so that we can capture inspiration.
Don’t forget to tell HandsOn Network how you made a difference on October 24!
