HandsOn Atlanta, PGA TOUR, The Coca-Cola Company & the East Lake Neighbors Community Association Commemorate Sept. 11
More than 135 volunteers commemorated the First National Day of Service and Remembrance by revitalizing East Lake Park in Atlanta on September 12.
The service project was a combined effort of The TOUR Championship presented by The Coca-Cola Company, HandsOn Atlanta and the East Lake Neighbors Association, stemming from the unique partnership between PGA TOUR and HandsOn Network. The diverse group of volunteers included representatives from each of those entities, plus youth, thanks to golf-affiliated youth organization First Tee.
Volunteers beautified the park by painting and staining park benches, removing graffiti and landscaping to make this public space more suitable for enjoyment by local residents.
Locally, the TOUR has worked in partnership with the East Lake Foundation in the revitalization of the East Lake neighborhood in Atlanta, developing a YMCA, charter school and grocery store, among other developments. The TOUR Championship presented by Coca-Cola has made contributions totaling $9 million to charities since 1998.
HandsOn Atlanta was one of many HandsOn Action Centers that coordinated service opportunities for volunteers to respond to September 11.
