Next Round of VIRE Grant Funding Opportunity!

The Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) for 2009’s Second Round of Volunteer Investment, Retention, and Expansion Grants (VIRE) will be released by Friday, June 19, in a special edition of the Affiliate Update. This funding opportunity is made available through a Cooperative Agreement between the Corporation for National and Community Service (The Corporation) and Points of Light Institute (No. 08ERSGA001).

The NOFA will also be posted on the HandsOn Network Web site (www.handsonnetwork.org), the Corporation for National and Community Service Web site (www.cns.gov) and it will be disseminated to State Service Commissions, Volunteer Center State Associations and others. HandsOn Network will be awarding up to $1.5 million in grants to a number of organizations through a competitive grant process. We will also hold several “How to Apply” Technical Assistance Webinars in July. We anticipate that grant applications will be due by the second week of August, and specific details will be included in the NOFA. Grant awards are expected to be announced in October.

If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact your VIRE Grants Team at: viregrants@handsonnetwork.org. We look forward to another exciting opportunity to invest in organizations that are the changemakers in their states and local communities through volunteering and service. VIRE grantees are the stand-out organizations that have consistently demonstrated success in applying and adapting their core expertise to engage and mobilize new and existing volunteers and volunteer leaders. These organizations meet pressing social needs in areas such as economic recovery, education and the environment by successfully leveraging volunteer programs.
