Long Island Volunteer Center Introduces Service Opportunities
The Long Island Volunteer Center coordinated an event recently that connected more than 300 community members to volunteer opportunities that aligned with their skills and interests.
This HandsOn Action Center co-sponsored the third annual Volunteer Fair at Farming State College on October 22. The event provided an opportunity for high school and college students, skills-based volunteers from the business community and local residents meet representatives from 63 nearby nonprofit agencies. These organizations were seeking volunteer positions of all levels of commitment, ranging monthly opportunities to internships.
Long Island Volunteer Center student interns also unveiled a youth award for the Long Island Hall of Fame at the fair. Nominations are now open for the Long Island Next Generation Award, which will recognize a youth who has made great strides in service. To see a video clip about the award, visit our YouTube channel.
The volunteer fair was a success because it allowed potential volunteers to learn about a bevy of local service opportunities and the organizations working to meet real needs in the community.
