HandsOn Network: We're Calling America to Get HandsOn

First Lady Obama announced United We Serve, an 81-day campaign that calls all Americans to volunteer in their communities to create change, during the 2009 National Conference on Volunteering and Service.

HandsOn Network is a key activator in this effort and will provide sustainable value for this call to service through its new Get HandsOn initiative. Essentially, HandsOn Network provides value for United We Serve through three key competencies, calling America to Get HandsOn:

  • Inspire Citizens
  • Equip Service Leaders
  • Mobilize Communities

Inspire Citizens. HandsOn Network inspires citizens to lifetimes of service by illustrating stories of significant civic engagement experiences.

Equip Service Leaders. HandsOn Network equips leaders to organize meaningful service opportunities that transform individuals and improve the health of communities.

Mobilize Communities. HandsOn Network activates communities through our more than 250 HandsOn Action Centers and expanded network of nonprofit organizations, corporations and educational institutions.

Get HandsOn aligns well with United We Serve. The President’s call focuses on four key areas where everyone can have real impact in their community: Energy and the Environment, Healthcare, Education and Community Renewal. Our network of HandsOn Action Centers, nonprofit organizations and corporate employee volunteer programs connects people to meaningful service opportunities where they can create real change in these areas; basically, United We Serve is simply a new framework to view the work accomplished across the network every day.
