Fidelity and HandsOn Network Transform Schools

HandsOn Network in partnership with Fidelity Investments® completed its second annual School Transformation Day tour. In July 2010, Fidelity and HandsOn Network, the volunteer activation arm of Points of Light Institute, announced a partnership designed to revitalize the learning environments in middle schools in cities across the U.S. in which Fidelity does business. The program expanded Fidelity's commitment to help middle school students achieve academic success and pursue their own unique paths to college and careers.Fidelity 1

This year, Fidelity and local HandsOn Network Action Centers planned, coordinated and got hands-on at "Transformation Days" in 10 cities, bringing renewed energy and enthusiasm to students and communities.

Transformations were completed in Florida, Kentucky, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Mexico, New Jersey, North Carolina, Rhode Island, Texas and Utah. Approximately 1,800 volunteers served more than 8,900 hours painting, landscaping and refurbishing schools in Fidelity's largest employee volunteer effort to date. With the exception of one new school, volunteers returned to the same schools they worked with in 2010, building upon the relationships they formed with the students, school administrators, teachers, students, parents and civic leaders.

Fidelity and HandsOn Network remain dedicated to employee and student interaction throughout the year. With the assistance of business units throughout Fidelity, employee volunteers will continue to partner with schools and focus on designing outreach programs that will help middle school students grasp the urgency of high school preparedness and the critical importance of a college education. Projects will include activities such as mentoring opportunities, school supply drives and career fair participation.
