Days of Service

HandsOn Network's National Days of Service provide business and corporations the opportunity to showcase their leadership in galvanizing impact of corporate-driven volunteerism.  Through various sponsorship opportunities, it is our goal to profile leaders in the corporate sector, raise awareness and mobilize millions of volunteers to demonstrate the power of service.

Martin Luther King Jr Day of Service: January

This day marks the beginning of the year of service as millions of Americans honor the memory of Dr. King by volunteering in their communities.  HandsOn Network supports this day by creating meaningful projects in communities across the nation

National Volunteer Week: April

This celebratory week focuses national attention on the impact and power of volunteerism and service as an integral aspect of our community landscape.  In 2010 we hosted a Self-Organizing Summit, Extra Mile Induction Ceremony, and a one-year anniversary celebration of the Serve America Act.

September 11th National Day of Service & Remembrance: September

HandsOn Network opens its doors on September 11, inviting volunteer in to find service opportunities that are both enjoyable and beneficial for communities. In addition to introducing the world to service pathways through open house events, HandsOn Action Centers lead high-impact volunteer projects to commemorate the day.

Make A Difference Day: October

For 18 years, USA WEEKEND and HandsOn Network have joined together to sponsor Make A Difference Day, the largest national day of community service. More than three million people served in 2009.

“The most memorable moment for us during Martin Luther King Jr. Day 2009 was working with African Refugees.  They learned about our Civil Rights history, and related to the struggles and heartache. They were inspired by MLK’s life and message, and  overwhelmed with how much the average volunteer cared about them!”

Recognition

Millions of people give their time, talent and energy to help strengthen communities.  It is through volunteer stories that people are inspired to serve and begin to recognize their personal power to transform themselves and the world around them.

Through participation in our national recognition programs, it is our goal to showcase your companies’ leadership in the service movement and recognize the power of extraordinary “change agents”.

Daily Point of Light Awards honor individuals and volunteer groups that help meet critical needs in their communities and create change, every day and in every way.

The Extra Mile is a one-mile walking path of bronze medallions in Washington, D.C., celebrating American service heroes and offering companies with sponsorship opportunities and visibility not offered by any other Federal monument.

Corporate Engagement Award of Excellence recognizes the collective commitment and power to change the world that corporations contribute through their programs to engage employees in service.

Walt Disney "cast member", Christy V. Conk,
upon receiving the Daily Point of Light Award.

"I was excited because the organizations I volunteer for were able to get their names out there and get some recognition. It might help them get more funds from the community because like any nonprofit, it’s hard to survive."
