Points of Light Presidential Forum on Service

History was made Friday evening, October 16, at Points of Light Institute’s Presidential Forum on Service at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas.

President Barack Obama joined President George H. W. Bush in honoring individual service and celebrating volunteerism’s tremendous gains during the past two decades under the Points of Light leadership. The unique gathering highlighted the immeasurable value of service and served as a moment for President Obama and former President Bush to inspire a new generation to serve.

Hands On Atlanta Celebrates 20th Anniversary

The annual Hands On Atlanta Day on October 3 served as a kick-off to Campaign 2010 and a year-long 20th anniversary celebration for Hands On Atlanta.

Volunteers participated in projects that focused on combating hunger and homelessness and meeting environmental, educational and senior citizens’ needs in four neighborhoods across the city. U.S. Congressman John Lewis and several key leaders served alongside Hands On Atlanta founders and volunteers during this hallmark day of civic engagement.

Kids Care Clubs Feed the Hungry

The United Nations estimates that two to three billion people are malnourished; in America, more than 36 million Americans, including 12.4 million children, are at risk of hunger, according to the USDA. Kids Care Clubs are creating service projects and raising funds to combat this issue and feed the hungry, thanks to the support of Quaker Oats.

From Birmingham to Beijing, Kids Care Clubs around the world will lead Microfinance for Kids and Feed the Hungry projects during the tenth annual Kids Care Week, October 18 – 24, 2009.
