On September 11, HandsOn Network and American Express will launch a year-long “Travel with Your Mind” HandsOn Schools program, beginning with a project in Detroit. Travel with Your Mind aims to expose students to the possibilities travel creates through a series of travel-related projects and multicultural initiatives in four cities important to the American Express and Delta/Northwest business partnership.

Throughout the year, American Express and Delta/Northwest volunteers, parents, students, teachers and other community members will work together to restore the school as the center of community through projects such as painting murals, renovating theaters, creating international food gardens and incorporating multicultural books and supplies into classrooms. Participating HandsOn Network Action Centers include United Way for Southeastern Michigan, HandsOn Mid South (Memphis), HandsOn Twin Cities and Seattle Works.

Overall, American Express’ “Travel with Your Mind” is expected to engage more than 500 volunteers, delivering 1,500 volunteer hours and contributions totaling more than $350,000.
