Get HandsOn Innovators Roundtable: On a local, national and global level, individuals are transforming their talents and time into social ventures that are making a difference. In this session, hear from three individual innovators who began small but are making a tremendous impact on a specific issue. Improve our Schools: The education of our children is a national priority. However, as resources to support education become increasingly scarce, we must find creative ways to support students. This session will showcase models in which schools and educators are welcoming the innovation and creativity of volunteer leaders to improve student performance. How to Use Facebook, Twitter and YouTube to Mobilize People to Take Action: The session will open with a brief summary of standard uses of Facebook, Twitter and YouTube and will progress quickly to offering advanced strategies for success. The session will focus heavily on concrete how-to's and is be best suited for individuals who run social media campaigns. Lessons Learned in Engaging Volunteer Leaders: Building Your Ranks of Self-Directed Volunteers – With growing human needs and nonprofit capacity limitations, the burgeoning trend of self-directed service can help fill the gap. What are new and creative ways to empower, equip and mobilize self-directed volunteer leaders? This session will feature three volunteer leaders who help answer that question by describing what inspired them to act; what they needed to succeed; what was accomplished; and, what’s replicable and sustainable. |

The Business of Self-Directed Volunteer Leadership: Many successful national and international businesses have been built upon an operational model that includes self-directed leadership at its core. These businesses rely upon a local individual to build business through his or her networks while providing support to those individuals in the form of training, web-based resources and brand alignment. Innovators in self-directed leadership can learn a great deal from these business models. In this breakout session, experts from the business sector will share the key elements required to create this kind of success, strategies for adopting these methods and how businesses support self-directed activities beyond their workforce. Save our Planet: The concern about the health of our environment and the care of our natural resources has grown to unprecedented levels. Citizens in urban and rural communities are anxious to make an impact in a meaningful ways. In this session, participants will explore how individuals are mobilizing others in service to the environment. Strengthen our Future: Recent economic challenges facing our country have resulted in an upsurge in requests for social services for the nation's newly unemployed and working poor. The issues are as diverse as the individuals affected and institutions attempting to provide support. Across the country, volunteer leaders are filling the gap in many ways. This session will demonstrate the power of individuals to make a meaningful impact on these economic issues. Lessons from Democracy 2.0: Rooted in a belief that an engaged citizenry is vital to sustaining a vibrant democracy, participants in this session will explore ways organizations and individuals can utilize social media to increasingly inspire, equip and mobilize people to take action that changes the world. |
